Lasting Power of Attorney

It is unfortunately possible that a situation might arise in which you might be incapable of managing your property and financial affairs or making decisions about your Health and Welfare. This could be for reasons of illness, accident or enforced absence. In such circumstances, your spouse or next of kin does not automatically have the ability to make decisions of this nature.

For example financial institutions such as banks, pension companies etc will not allow your loved ones to release or transfer assets (should they be needed to pay for bills and other matters) without there being a Lasting Power of Attorney for Financial Decisions in place.

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to choose in advance who would be able to make important decisions on your behalf if you could not do so. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney. One relating to financial matters and the other to health and care matters. A Health and Care Lasting Power of Attorney provides also allows you to decide whether your attorneys can make end of life decisions on your behalf.
